Baptism
Baptism is an important step of obedience for everyone who has placed their faith in Jesus. Baptism is a simple, yet sacred act. It’s a symbol of one’s old life being washed away and being raised to a new life in Christ. We believe that baptism is a celebration for the entire community. And because of that, we love walking with those who are taking this step of obedience at Crosspointe!
WHO should be BAPTIZED? Anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus. We believe that it is only through the work of Christ, accomplished on the cross, that we find forgiveness for our sin. Standing alongside Christians throughout the ages, we believe that Christ gave up his life completely, that his blood was shed for each of us. Salvation is found when we rest in his work, his blood, his death and resurrection, to accomplish what we cannot accomplish on our own. And it is in this faith that we find right standing with God, our Father. Baptism is the symbolic act representing our faith in Jesus. Baptism is a symbol intended for the believer being baptized and the community gathered. Salvation comes through faith in Christ, not in the act of baptism. We choose to be baptized not to gain salvation, but as an act of obedience to Jesus. Christian baptism is the outward sign of an inward change.
WHEN should I be BAPTIZED? Baptism should follow a decision to place your faith completely in Christ. As an adult, we encourage you to do this at the next opportunity for baptism here at Crosspointe. For children, we encourage parents to spend a good deal of time discussing baptism, so that they understand this symbolic act. We also provide a class for children, to help them understand and think through their faith in Jesus and what baptism represents.
